Sitting next to the starter are two molded connectors. The larger one has two larger pins in it. Spread the pins back apart. There is a similar connector about a foot off of the panel. Do the same there.
This is a normal problem with the older Yanmar panels and harnesses.
Thank You NEVER MONDAY. We have a 3GM 30 F . For the last six or so years we have been fighting the click issue while pushing the starter button. Most times it would click from one to several attempts before starting. Every now and then it would start on the first try. Behind the panel, we would unplug and clean all of the connectors. Occasionally things seemed better, not always. Thinking it might help we would also spray electronic contact cleaner into the key switch.

Now out of desperation we tried your method immediately. The engine now starts on the first try every time. No more do we worry about getting into situations causing the immediate need for the engine to start NOW. We never realized that there was a second plug like the one on the panel located near the starter. THANK YOU AGAIN !!, as I am certain that you have also helped many others by sharing your knowledge.
