yanmar ysb8 small oil leak, maybe

Had some issues early this summer, I filled (overfilled) with oil and almost had a runaway as engine decided to burn some excess lub oil. Only ran for 1/2 minute but still scared me. Immediately changed the oil, measured correct amount, found out I have been using dip stick wrong all these years. Engine works fine now however, in cleaning the engine in depth, have found a small leak (I think) by the gov lever. Have attached a pic, there is a white bushing, have never noticed it before, wondering if the engine issues I had pushed it out of place but doesnt seem to be any excess movement. Goibg to run it again tomorrow to see if leak repeats. Just wondering if the pic and white bushing makes any sense to anyone? I am also going to replace the hose from the crank? that goes to intake, might be a small leak there as lever does run very close to it.

To find oil leaks on an engine, wrap toilet paper around the item.

That white thing should be 'dust cover' to keep the general engine debris out of the small needle roller bearing that sits in the block.

Possibly the oil over fill allowed some oil to come up through the needle roller bearing - there isn't any oil seal on the gov arm.

Clean off the oil and keep a weather eye on it.

The YB8 has a similar arrangement but in a different position. The gov arm and injector pump is the same on both engines. Attached is from the SB parts book.

See items 9 & 11. There are two needle roller bearings (item 9).

The YSE doesn't have item 10 but I dunno about the YSB. It might have and maybe it has moved but I doubt it.

On reflection, the only difference between the YSE and YSB is the housing of the gearbox on the YSB is alloy while the YSE is cast iron.

Hi halifax sailor.
Dont know wether that white thing is meant to be in the hole that needle bearing goes in or just sits on top but as its described as dust cover like Wottie said maybe not sit inside. Have tried to attch screenshot but we'll see if it works.
Thats my 1st screenshot so happy it worked 13-18 is yr "dust cover" & 13-19 needle bearing. Thats from the yse book.
My guess is you are unlikely to have a problem there.
P.s. thats a better pic than the one u pm'd me lol.
