1980 Hunter 36 Engine Hatch

Say everybody. I'm new to the forum. If I'm posting this in the wrong place please let me know.

I have a 1980 Hunter 36. Love it. Mostly very well designed. However i have a problem with the cockpit engine hatch. It has a very shallow lip and no seal. So it leaks. The thing is I can't even tell how it is supposed to work. There are screw holes around the edges. Don't know if they are original or some previous attempt to hurry rig it. Perhaps it once had an elaborate seal with dogs and maybe hinges on the aft side?

Does any one have any pictures of what this looked like from the yard? Or even of similar hatches on other boats?
