4 Stage HVLP - Will it work with Awlcraft 2000?

Looking at options to finish out the spray work on my boat and came across this…

https://www.amazon.com/Fuji-2894-T75...ct_top?ie=UTF8

Anybody have any experience or advice? Someone said it wouldn't atomize the paint well enough, but if you thin it out enough, seems like it would work. I saw a little youtube vid of someone using it and results looked nice.

With the size, effort, and space that the 30 gal compressor and spray gun kit I need would take up, this machine would end up costing an extra $400 or so. The trade-off would be worth it to me, but want to make sure it's gonna work, as I am heading down soon.

Thanks!

Dude

Usually use at least a gallon pressure pot for spraying boats. Stopping to refill that thing will cause problems unless your only spraying a rowboat.

Re: 4 Stage HVLP - Will it work with Awlcraft 2000?

I want to use it for the smooth finishes along deck, cockpit, coachhouse etc. Lots of little nooks and crannies that would be a pain with a brush and roller. But it's not so much real estate that I would need a pressure pot - or I could break it into sections. That's my thought anyway.

Thanks for the advice.

In that case it might be perfect. Not going to be as good a finish as a standard rig, but awlcraft 2000 is very forgiving. Put enough on and you can allways sand and polish if needed. I haven't used one of these in many years but I'm sure it'll be able to the awlcraft.

Good to know. Also, why do you say results won't be as good with a standard rig? Will it not atomize properly or lay enough material down?

I'm sure you don't need a kit that nice? I used a HVLP gun with 20oz cup from Harbor freight for $69.00 works awesome. I spray everything from the cockpit, all wood work and even the metallic silver for the window frames and mast and boom, all turned out great. I use high pressure to better atomize the paint but will lower it if I don't want the over spray. For small close areas I use a preval, that also works good.

The short answer to your question is no. I have a friend who recently insisted on using one of these, despite my advice, for awlcraft 2000 on a boat. It was a friggin nightmare. Don't do it.

Many thanks all. I've be dissuaded. I guess it's 20 or 30 gal compressor time.
