I hate the word awesome, so I will just say "I am in awe". Something to be proud of.

If this persists to be a problem, you can take a little rake out of the mast. That should give you a little more room on those aft lowers. Will reduce weather helm a tad also.

a little hard work does pay off. A nice day out on the water this weekend. And we choose a 10' Kayak for a dinghy for the time being.

Re: 40 yr old Cape Dory gets a face lift

Just splashed the 'new' old CD25. Purchase three weeks ago. boat #14 in my 40 yrs of sailing. Found the seacocks all frozen open. Removed and replaced with new bronze (at great cost) but wanted some that worked when I needed to shut them off. The old bronze cocks are available to anyone wanting the original equipment. Have lapped two of them and they work well when clean. Will sell for 1/2 the price of new listed on Sparten. 2 of 1 1/2 inch and 2 of the 3/4 inch.

Re: 40 yr old Cape Dory gets a face lift

Beautiful. I used to have a Cape Dory 25D. After selling it in 1988, I had lost touch with it until by pure chance I found it blocked up in the yard, a hundred yards from my current sailboat last year. The guy I sold it to still owns it. It's a little worse for wear, and I have fantasized about buying it and restoring it to it's glory.

before and after pics side by side?? now yur asking a lot. I'm happy I can post a pic period. I'm better with sand paper and a sprayer than a computer.
Patn44 Congrats on the new boat. I'm sure you will love her as we do. I just put an offer on my next project boat/home, If that comes thru I will be selling my baby if anyone knows of some one that wants basically a brand new classic. Everything is new and in mint condition. I just installed the new stern rail, don't have pics yet. will have new life lines in the next couple weeks

Re: 40 yr old Cape Dory gets a face lift

I hope this is the last one. after I finished the CD, I said the next boat I get will be a turn key. Well its just the opposite, well not that bad, and not a total gut, just a little cosmetic luv needed and some new equipment needed which I enjoy doing anyway and its a great way to learn the boat and its systems. We go to survey next Thursday so we will see just how much work it will need. I will keep you posted.
