Re: ??? 65hp Ford Lehman ???

I'll post pictures and tell you what I got it for later.. don't be envious.. it's got issues but the bones it's got good bones.. and I've been waiting a long time since Ian.

Unfortunately Google is no longer anyone's friend, I've had better luck using Dogpile or Yandex but still have been unable to determine the actual model of the motor and find any sort of documentation on anything other than I believe it's a very early version before they started marinating the Lehman motor. I feel my best bet is just searching out old tractor engines, it'll be the same thing I'm assuming other than the wet exhaust and heat exchanger.

Just engine oil for the cambox. I had the same problem finding any reference at all to the 65hp ford on any of the search engines which is very strange since they were quite popular prior to the arrival of 80 and 120hp modern version, I’ll take a stroll through a couple of the old engine websites and see if I can locate a service manual.

Re: ??? 65hp Ford Lehman ???

I believe some Fords were called Bedfords in UK
Lehman is a US mfgr who built the marine components to marinize 4 & 6cyl Ford industrial diesels. Other companies did likewise.
Hope this link helps.http://www.bluestarsurveys.co.uk/Ford_Lehman.pdf

Here is Workshop manual,I think. https://ab-marineservice.com/wp-cont...hop-Manual.pdf
Do you have a 2712E ?

Nah, you just have to ask the right questions, it’s a FORDSON E1A new major that Lehman converted for marine use and I found a service manual free online at queenslandtractor spares…. But it’s the whole tractor AND engine with no marine parts but you can see where the seawater pump bolted on to the block. Even the marinised version of this engine had the vacuum governor and for the younger mechanics that claim diesels don’t make vacuum these had a butterfly valve built into the intake manifold that practically closed off the intake air enough to pull the rack back to idle against a spring. These engines were old when I was young….. and British farming depended on em to be reliable

Once I take ownership I will go ahead an try to find the parts that tend to go first so they are on hand. My issue is not knowing what to get as im not familiar with these. I know Im going to change the oil asap no knowing its age. He has lots of paperwork that he put in storage. Hope it has the engine paperwork in it. Parts list with numbers would be great. I plan on redoing just about everything on the boat, not just because it needs to be done but so I know how and where everything is.
Originally a British FORD tractor engine that was widely used worldwide also in contruction equipment . Millions of these were sold worldwide. famed for durability.

Re: ??? 65hp Ford Lehman ???

A few thoughts:
* Head over the the sister forum https://www.trawlerforum.com/
Lots of Lehman info over there. Mainly 120HP but also some 80hp
* Re a prior post on injector pump oil changes. On my 120's the injector pump oil is spec'ed to be changed every 50 hours. (!) Apparently the oil gets diluted with diesel. I have heard that you can monitor and see how much or little it gets diluted, then increase the interval if safe to do so.
* American Diesel https://americandieselcorp.com/ is a fantastic source for information and parts - they really know their Lehmans (no affiliation, just a happy customer).

Re: ??? 65hp Ford Lehman ???

It’s probably worth pointing out that the 65hp Fordson diesel and the 80/120 HP Ford that we mostly see in boats have very little in common (other than the injectors under the valve cover), no parts from one will fit the other, one has wet liners the other has no liners and to be honest, the old original one was the better engine….. a bold statement given how good the 80/120 hp Ford Lehman models are.
