Re: Amount of sealant/adhesive to rebed keel

I think I will be to late but for future reference i can share my story of re-bedding the keel.

You can see all process from drop to re-building stringers to re-bedding.
If you have some questions ask it was cool experience

Re: Amount of sealant/adhesive to rebed keel

I believe TPI was the first commercial builder to use an epoxy glass band in the keel hull joint. Both the lead and the stump were formed is such a way that the band was flush when finished. The TPI team tried a number of sealants and settled on 3M 5200 between hull and lead and a flexible epoxy and triaxial glass for the band.
This the manatee approved system. Not Orca proof.

yOyOeK1,

I just caught your series on YouTube. Very interesting project. One question I have for you is how you managed to drop the keel without removing the mast. I haven’t found a marina willing to do that for fear of tipping the boat on the stands.

Apparently they don’t mind dropping the keel with mast up while in the slings. But must have mast removed to block and stand.

Thoughts appreciated.

Good question
For sure little bit of luck but in reality boat is super light. Bottom is almost flat. Boat was siting on a gigantic concrete pylons something like 50cm above ground level. You can see arrangement in some episodes. All time when boat was stationary all halyards all running back-stays were attached to that concrete pylons. Anchoring points for that was really width.
We head couple of squalls passing by during the time being on the hard and in this arrangement boat was more stable then on regular arrangement (stands).

BTW Pleas spread the word about channel if you can.
And if you have any questions ask.
