I had a fitting failure with wire lifelines. The idiot round ring that passed through the pin that holds the shackle vanished. Very tired after a passage i was setting the anchor I supported one hand against the lower line. The life line collapsed and I caught myself with shoulder and face in the upper life line. the bow had gone under quite a bit through the night so I imagine the ring failed and the pin was working loose. That lifeline is there for a buffer a grip a known entity and support. in many ways I think an amsteel system takes out a lot of failure points. I. could have gone through the lines and being exhausted without a ladder or dink in the water found a real mess. I grab a lifeline as a balance point often having it fail is not acceptable. I think amsteel is a good replacement if done well.
