Aqua Signal Stern Light ?

How do I remove the cover of my Aqua Signal Series 34 stern light to enable access to the screws holding the light in place?

Re: Aqua Signal Stern Light ?

Thin screwdriver on each side between the cover and the base.... you think you’ll break it but you won’t.
.......at least I didn’t.

"For demounting the housing cap must be removed carefully with an angled screwdriver first on the aft side and afterwards on the zero-ahead side”

Re: Aqua Signal Stern Light ?

Thanks for this GordMay, your advice is always right on. However, the light was in my hand, not mounted. I wanted to mount it to a bracket I made, so I needed to take it apart to place the screws. I tried to carefully pry the cover off with a very small screw driver, but it broke the cover and so I threw it away. Must have been prying in the wrong place.
I've ordered another, a Hella this time, and hope I can figure out how to dismantle it so as to mount it on the stern of this Flicka I am fixing up. I put an Aqua Signal stern light on the 32 foot Egret yawl I built, but don't remember how I got it apart so as to bolt it to the stern mounting bracket.
The Hella people have a diagram, specs and description on their lamp, but I couldn't find anything on the Aqua Signal one.

Re: Aqua Signal Stern Light ?

Hella lights are superior in design to Aqua Signal. These days a lot of nav lights are super long life sealed LED's anyway, and can't be taken apart.

Re design:
Years ago I had an Aqua Signal combination strobe/anchor/tri colour light on the mast head. It had only 3 wires to connect to the d.c panel and a small printed circuit board "potted" in epoxy inside the base of the light that switched between the 3 functions.
The clear/coloured lens had a bayonet lock with "o" ring that went inside the base, NOT outside. Of course in time the O ring perished and water leaked into the base and into the potted circuit board (which had wires coming out to the 3 bulbs).

I called a senior "customer relations" guy at Aqua Signal and complained about the defective design. He told me that "95% of our customer's boats never leave the dock so its not a big problem". He did send me a new light, which a sold and bought a Hella.
