Autopilot linear drive base corroding...

I have a reaction between the cast aluminium base plinth and the stainless bolts. I know they needed coating but I only had lanocoat and didn't want the grease getting around before painting in aft locker. I also needed to do some tabbing to build protection for the AP drive.

I guess clean up with white vinegar, wash and then the lanocoat? What about non-setting buty sealant. Tefgel seems such a gouge.

What is your problem with Tefgel? It is extremely effective.

$37/minute syringe. And any barrier coat will probably do.
Does it set, or move around like lanocote?
I dislike buying something expensive and using it once.
Surely MS, 291, butyl, will do the job? Which I already have.

Re: Autopilot linear drive base corroding...

I always have Tefgel on board. A syrine lasts many years. It is the very useful on a mast where you are putting stainless steel screws into aluminum mast that is exposed to weather. That does sound like a ridiculously high price, even in nzd.
Anything that isolates the stainless to the AL on your drive will help. You don't say how any water is getting to this fitting. If it is through leaks then any good bedding compound should work.
Tefgel's advantage is that screws can be removed 5 years latter.

Try buying it like I did last week and now not having a clue what I've done with it ...it's been doing my head in for days

I surrender. Too much positive FB on tefgel. Another item to secret away and not remember where I put it. Currently can't find the torx security bit put in a "special" easy-to-get-at place.
