Bent Shaft?

Boat got hit hard while engine and shaft were uncoupled. Engine moved substantially. Had to re-couple to move to the lift to inspect for damage. Now the shaft is bent? Could this have happened from coupling shaft to a severely misaligned engine and motoring for half and hour (It was jumping all over the place on the move to lift)? Was fine before the hit.

Re: Bent Shaft?

Maybe, what diameter shaft? Smaller shafts are weaker and your continually flexing it hard, then going round and round if it was coupled and spinning that far off.

Re: Bent Shaft?

I note your comment "Engine moved substantially" "Jumping all over the place".
There are normally four engine mounts used to fasten the engine to the engine bed. These bolts are normally sufficiently strong to hold the engine in place (even if the boat were inverted.

Given your description, I'd suggest you need a thorough assessment of the condition of your engine mounts (hold-down bolts and rubbers) and additionally check that the mounts are still firmly attached to the engine bed.

I think you'd be wise to get a professional assessment before you start pulling things apart.
