Some of us wear a hard head, instead!

Careen instead?
Ok just a thought.
Not sure if it was mentioned but be sure the ground below the keel is really as solid as you think. I saw a boat once where the keel was on soft ground and it sunk enough that a stand punched a hole in the boat. Did this thread come up because of Jeanne Socrates' accident?
I second the thing about the billed cap making you bang your head on everything. Put a bill on a kayaking helmet or something like this is good:

Hi Don

This did come up because of Jeanne's accident which I am sure could've happened to me. One of the mods suggested a separate thread so here it is. I'll pull all the suggestions together into a list including careening. Keep 'em coming.

Re: Boat yard: SAFETY in jack stands

One other bit of advice based on working on my boat this past summer in the NC heat, in a shed that would turn into a broiler by early afternoon: mind the heat, stay hydrated, and quit before the heat gets to be too much.

Heat presents many creeping dangers. Your mind starts to lose it's sharpness, your sense of balance can be slightly impaired just enough to lead to something bad, and sweat makes a great lubricant that can lead to accidents. Know when to knock off instead of pushing through the worst heat of the day.

Some of us wear a tin foil hat. Seriously, those doing their own work, on the hill, are pretty much sensible people and safety is a non-issue. I guess there is the exception to pretty much.
