bronze or stainless portlights?

All:
I'm replacing all the plastic portlights on our 38' ketch with NFM units. Need opinions on bronze vs stainless as the prices are the same. We have all bronze cleats but that's it, everything else is stainless or anodized sail tracks.
Thanks

Re: bronze or stainless portlights?

Bronze will look better for longer.
Stainless will show signs of age sooner.
If boat is older go for bronze, as it is more traditional.
Bronze is a tougher material, and will not work-harden or crevasse corrode...
Umm I think by now you're guessing I favor Bronze? I could go on...

Re: bronze or stainless portlights?

Ours are bronze. 85 years old and still like new.

In the short term the stainless will be fine. In the long term, the bronze will do better. If you must have shiny-all-the-time bronze, then it's back to the stainless. If you like brown/green patina, then it's over to the bronze. If they're gunmetal (a form of bronze) they will age w/o turning so green and they'll be a bit more brown than green.

Which shape are your old ones? Are you doing an exact replacement or making it slightly different?
