Re: Can I use a less expensive caulking as a bedding layer?

Dont need caulking from top to bottom. I used to do bottoms on lapstake wood boats. We would stuff the joints with jute rope and then caulk the last 1/4". Then the hull would be submerged in water. Did the same thing on wood decks.

Could you post to the specific product you mean?

Was the panel build documented anywhere?

Re: Can I use a less expensive caulking as a bedding layer?

I dont suppose any one would have a rough idea of how many tubes would be needed or if any one has done anything similar and know how much they used??

The planks are about 10mm thick, and a bit thicker in some places.

Thank youClick image for larger version

I bought 8 cases (12 10oz cartridges each) and had a case left over on our Kaufman 47. We have thick teak on our decks as well. If you look at our blog about it you can see pictures of our deck in relation to yours. I ordered the teak deck system caulk from Jamestown Distributors. Case was $130 a pop. So not inexpensive, but it has been great so far.

Marine products are designed for greater temperature ranges and greater expanding/contracting. Two products with different intended purposes will expand and contract at different rates.
