I pulled up the old carpet last summer, and I need to finish that project. I would prefer the look of wood, but I already have no headroom, and carpet is thinner, easier to install.

Is any carpet better than another? My bilge stays dry, so far, that I have seen. We have a pair of Maltese dreamboats that can have rare accidents. Who's perfect?

Would bathroom carpet be preferable to retail showroom commercial carpet? Some of the wall to wall bathroom carpets are machine washable. That would kill any mold that might want to get a foothold.

Looked over past threads, and see very little leaning towards carpet.

The soft foam 2 ft squares would be perfect. Pull one up and hose it off! Easy on the feet too.

Re: Carpet On Sailboat Floor. Recommendations?

I just bought some inexpensive berber carpet at home depot. cut it to fit. looks good, cheap, and easy to replace. my boat is dry inside as i've spent years of chasing down leaks, so it stays dry.

Re: Carpet On Sailboat Floor. Recommendations?

I purchase some cheap indoor/outdoor carpet in some color that appeals to me that day, cut it to fit and throw it down. It's not bad looking, holds up well, and you can even take it outside and hose it down if necessary.
A couple of years later when it's looking tired, I throw it away and repeat the process.

Re: Carpet On Sailboat Floor. Recommendations?

I got some great berber style carpeting at a carpet outlet that is 100% nylon; you can cut it to fit and take it outside and hose it off; dries quick. Looks great. The key is to get a nylon carpeting, low, low pile with minimal backing. I had some bound on the edges very cheaply and really looks great!!!!

I kinda like the carpet this boat had installed.

Otherwise, I would think anything good for outdoors would work well.

Re: Carpet On Sailboat Floor. Recommendations?

We found soft vinyl that looks just like hardwood flooring. It's easy to clean and until they walk on it, most of my friends think I am a master craftsmen.
