Caulking Cockpit

Finished totally stripping down my teak cockpit and have 4 coats of varnish on right now. I just noticed some spacing between the slats ( mounted on top of fiberglass). Should I caulk in between them? If so what do you recommend?

Re: Caulking cockpit

Not to step on your toes, but the caulking should have been done before varnish.
And varnish over teak will not last long unless you keep at it. When the sun hits it, it wants to bleed out oil.

I found over the years that teak keeps better if oiled.

Re: Caulking cockpit

Is the gap in the photo between vertical slats or the horizontal ones or both?

The slats run vertical. The gap is between the vertical portion.

Don't worry about stepping on toes. Caulk it up to inexperience. Realizing now I should have caulked first.
