Centerboard Repair

One of my upcoming projects concerns the centerboard. There are three spots where bleeding is showing thru on the leading edge of the board. board is about 7 feet, and the spots are pretty evenly spaced about 18" apart. I assume there is a stainless steel bar or rod in there and cracks in the glass have permitted water intrusion. I plan to grind, patch and fair. Anyone been down this road before ? Options or advice ?

Larry
