Chain locker caluculation

I found the formula Length x (chain dimension x chain dimension) / 49000

This came out in metric...around 78 liter. Question is..is that how much space the chain would take..OR is it the the minimum chain locker size skuld be?

I don't know whether this is the link that gave you the formula but they do explain about locker shapes and "dos" and "don'ts" here
