Charisma Update...

Hi all! Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but we have been busy. House is sold, move went well, and all is on track toward the ultimate goal. Here's a few pics of Charisma's refit. We are having fun, and it's much more fun bolting on parts then it was sanding for months on end First we have replaced ALL the wood on deck with low maintenance Plastic Lumber ( Deck Lumber from recycled plastic.Dimensional plastic lumber.Outdoor furniture. ) . We still have the plugs to install in the fastener holes, but you can get an idea of how this looks. The bow pulpit has been reinstalled with the added anchor rollers and upgrades, and it too sports new plastic boards fastened with SS carriage bolts. New lifelines are installed in these pics, and it was a learning experience. We have done almost everything ourselves during this refit, and were all set to use hand-crimp lifeline fittings too. We spoke with our rigger, Dave Thomson at John Eggers Sailmakers in NJ, and he advised us to price them both ways, hand-crimp and swaged. Turns out the cost difference is marginal, the strength goes up and the labor goes WAY down if you have them fabricated. Dave had ours on our doorstep two days after we ordered. Total time: 2 hours. One hour for measuring (and remeasuring), and one hour for installation. SWEET! Last we see Charisma sporting her new paint job. Two coats of Interlux Epoxy Primecoat, followed by three coats of Interlux Perfection Med. white. All coats were applied by the roller roller tip method. One person rolls paint, while the second follows up with a "dry" roller smoothing quickly. We used "Slicker" 9" rollers and 1/2 gal of Perfection per coat (42' boat). There is light stipple, but the Perfection's shine is amazing, and we are quite happy with the results. All paint was wet sanded between coats.

There you have it for now. Please keep posting your refit pictures, as they really inspire us, and we love the camaraderie. Clear skies and following seas, Chris and Marisa

Thanks Guys! Selling a dirt dwelling right now is a complete nightmare. We were lucky enough to live in a part of the country that hasn't seen the terrible depreciation some places nave experienced, but our buyer had one hell of a time with her financing. HUD, I promise to post more pics soon. I bring the camera and take a few of the engine room next time I visit the boat. Currently working on the exhaust system and bobstay right now... C

Congratulations on your outstanding progress, Christian. Charisma is really looking good . . . you should be very proud. I'm glad the plan you made is working out just as you had hoped. Well done!
