Re: Chrome Plating Service?

---and you really do want to spend some time and find a good shop. Maybe one of the vintage boat restorers would have a shop. It takes a lot of experience with old non-ferrous castings to be able to extract all the salts and oxidation/corrosion out, before replating. Many bike shops plate aluminum alloy based parts. My guy tells me this is a whole different ball game from brass, bronze work.

Re: Chrome Plating Service?

Just had my winches redone . Very happy these guys know what they are doing all the bikers go to them and they do all our refrigeration plates . The can do almost anything accept aluminum , they will polish that . Some about the chemicals you have to have to do aluminum.

They are in Toronto Canada so not sure if that helps US boaters . But if you have a box of stuff you could ship it to them . Tell them John @ ColdEh sent you

Mayfair Plating

This winch is 37 years old .

Regards John.

Re: Chrome Plating Service?

Interesting you re-enacted this old post John, and thanks for sharing.

I will need to do this to my Lewmars as well, good to know there is a local shop.
I searched long and hard for a place that could re-chrome my compass housing, one that would not use any magnetic coating. I found one in Scarborough.
