You guessed correctly, Nigel. Murphy's gets quite slippery when wet with rain or a little spray.

i use the orange wipeez from costco and follow it with lemon oil onthe bulkheadfs and ceiling woods... overhead i clean with murpys or vinegar-- whatever will remove the remnants of using wrong lamp oil products.....

Amen! Follow up with a little Lemon Oil rub and polish which works well on either oiled or varnished woodwork and inhibits mold.
