Re: Clear Vinyl Window Material-Advice Please?

We just installed a new dodger this spring and went with the Makrolon. Since our dodger had zippers on the bottom edge that fit into a track system to secure the bottom, we used an extra half of a zipper attached to a snap buckle that could be zipped onto the zipper half attached to the opening window. The other half of the buckle is attached to a strap that went around the rear support tube on the dodger. There are two of these attachment points, one on each side of the opening part. They hold the Makrolon window up against the interior top of the dodger.

We are quite happy with this system.

The price we were quoted for the Makrolon was only about $50 -$100 more that the other options. It is amazingly clear and easy to clean with water and micro fiber cloth.

Re: Clear Vinyl Window Material-Advice Please?

I spent 7k CAD to have my enclosure constructed. When I don't need various pieces I layer them with pieces of old sheets and leave them flat. I'm sorry I can't tell you what the windows are made of, but this is the recommendation of the sailmaker.
Big money for my 28' Beneteau, but worth every penny!!

Strata glass is great flexible and stays clear even after 8 years. I do my own canvas work but the cost of strataglass is worth it. Limited in shipping sizes though

Re: Clear Vinyl Window Material-Advice Please?

I have the crystal clear product from stratoglass. Much better than the old stratoglass. However, leaving it curled up for a long period is not advised.
expensive and hard to work with.

Bunnings sells roll up clears for pagola's /verandah's etc
unsure of exact chemical composition / the clears designed to withstand below freezing and uv stable lasts well and stands a hiding.
order a clear blind big enough to cut out the clears that you need

Re: Clear Vinyl Window Material-Advice Please?

I am a professional Canvas worker. My shop is in the aft cabin of my trimaran. O*Sea is the best one for pressed polished and coated window vinyl. To avoid damage when rolling, roll so water does not collect in the plastic., for example roll them in under the bimini rather than out facing the weather. Make the rolls less tight, longer tie- up straps. . Keep them clean using mild soapy water and a microfiber cloth. Never use windex. Never use paper towels. Wash often. And tell your seamstress to use ptfe or gortex thread. I would recommend the .040 thickness
