Re: Cockpit Table Out Of Cherry?

Yes cove it get your canvas Maker to make a cover for the table. Cherry is beautiful stuff.
If its a cockpit table I would use Polyurethane least 3 coats .Than cove it with canvas.

Re: Cockpit Table Out Of Cherry?

I was looking at other "outdoor" woods and it's hard to find anything with any character to it, unless I went with the teak & holly look.

If I go ahead and use the figured cherry there will be no laminating and that could mean wood movement later on. The teak & holly look would be much more stable.

Whatever route I go, I'll finish with Interlux Perfection Plus. Not sure about using BLO for grain pop (but just with the cherry, not with the T&H look). A test with the IPP will tell me if it's needed.

Next question - what thickness should the table be? Right now the cherry is 7/8" thick. The old table is 5/8" but looks kind of anemic. But the lip would add some visual heft to the table so maybe 5/8" is fine.

You mean like this. I am not happy with a couple of the glue lines but it is what it is?
