Cost to paint deck

Looking for a ballpark cost. The boat is a Cabo Rico 38 ft cutter. It’s located in Tarpon Springs FL. In addition to the painting I will want some cosmetic glass work such as repairing stress cracks.
I’m guessing somewhere around $15-20K. Sound high? Low?

Re: Cost to paint deck

I'm not up to speed but yes was thinking in the $15k range in the US. Depends on how much hardware and if you mean cockpit too etc. If you could strip the harware etc that would save some I would think. Or maybe just leave it, depending on how far you want to go.
I wouldn't change colors, decks take some hits and different colors show the dings too readily.

Wow. Glad I was too poor to look into having someone else do this for me. DIY was substantially cheaper but took a few months of weekends. I'd say I spent about 3k in materials for a morgan oi 41. Interlux primer and brightsides. Kiwigrip for the non skid. Rebuilt the bow under the windlass and some small cosmetic stress cracks and old screw holds. Don't do it in the Florida summer like I did though, that was stupid.

I've painted most of my deck and cockpit with left over topside paint.

The paint was Pettit EZ-Poxy and it cost almost $100.00 for the gallon

Re: Cost to paint deck

Thank you all for your replies. However, DIY is not really an option. I am 69 going on 70, temperatures are already in the 90’s. Thanks to some wise decisions and a good deal of luck, I can afford the work. After all, I can’t take it with me, although my wife has mentioned writing me a check 🥴.
So it is either hire it done or it won’t get done.

I happen to be at Oasis Boatyard and Marina here in Saint Augustine, which is THE place to get your boat painted in northern Florida. It’s their specialty and they work amazingly fast. If the big boys can fit in their travel lift this is where they come. However, the prices are very reasonable.

If you call Jourdan at the front desk and tell her you know the Cabo Rico in the yard here, she will be familiar with the boat and I’m sure would be able to help you with an accurate quote.

Unfortunately zboss I happen to be on the SW side of Florida near St Petersburg. It would take quite a while to get to St Augustine and cost a fortune in travel. But thank you for the suggestion and the reference.

You are in the right ball park, although it can vary quite a bit depending on the details.

A CB38 is a beautiful boat. It has a fairly small deck area, but lots of what the Brits would call "fiddly bits" which is what drives the cost. If you can find a contractor who will work with you on the details you can balance the level of cosmetic niceness vs $'s spent.

Re: Cost to paint deck

Wow...I used Rustoleum?Tremclad ($50 gallon)on the deck (almond), Hull (white), Mast and stripes (Forest Green)
Mast.....just repainted after 24 years
Deck.....repaint every 6 years or when really dirty

Hull .....repainted after 12 years....easier than cleaning

Scratches/dings cover easily, looks sharp

Bill

Re: Cost to paint deck

It sounds high to me. I just had the topsides of my cat painted and the quote was $18k. I would expect yours to be at least 50% less than that.

Why ask here? Contact a recommended boatyard and get the number that is correct.

Re: Cost to paint deck

Just ask Pittmans boat yard They can travel to give you a estimate . The old cuban man there is tops with glass and a spray gun.
OR ask Dan the boat-write who and how. ? Jeremy sprayed my Saber and his Formosa light Blue .Just get estimates first .
When Crieg gets back he will be busy with his morgan , So the estimate is the best way to go .

Because that's what members do. IMO it's a totally legit question. If you don't want to add anything, just move on to another thread.

I fully intend to talk to the yard. What I was seeking here was some handle to help decide if the quote was reasonable

Re: Cost to paint deck

Professional painting is a lot more expensive than doing it yourself. The cost is usually calculated per linear foot. Professional topside painting can range from $100 to $400. On average, it can be around $200.
Bottom painting ranges from $15 to $100 per linear foot professionally. An approximate of $20 is the estimated average for bottom painting.
