Covering or coating lead with epoxy

Our boat has a steel hull and keel and 4 tons of lead ballast. Much of the lead is molten into the keel and forms the bottom of the bilge. In some places it is pitted and corroded on the surface. I would like to smooth it out and coat it. Is is possible or even desirable to cover the lead with epoxy?

There is also a spot forward where the keel begins that has lead ingots as ballast and these are also corroding on the surface. I want to remove them so that I can treat and re-coat the steel. When I put them back are there any recommendations on coating or treating the lead ingots to keep them from corroding?

Any insight would be appreciated.
