Crazing around deck step, no compression post? 1978 Cape Dory 27

Crazing around deck step on 1978 Cape Dory 27, is this okay? I am planning on purchasing this boat, and everyone looks sound except for this crazing. I am worried this shows that there could be a structural problem with the mast step. However, this boat has a clean survey from one year ago.

Anyone with experience with the Cape Dory 27 knows why there doesn't seem to be a compression post? Is the mast just supported by the bulkhead?
