Re: Custom rigging HELP?

I got my eta-lok components and wire from West Marine. I've got everything I need to reinforce the aft chainplates.

Re: Custom rigging HELP?

Getting closer to finishing the chainplate reinforcement. The new chainplate is finally installed and the Sta-lok support is attached to it. I need to remove the top of my settee to get access to the stringer where the the other end will be attached.

Re: Custom rigging HELP?

I've repaired the deck and installed the new chainplate. I sealed up the gap around the chainplate where it protrudes from the deck with Life Caulk. Once the Life Caulk set up I reinstalled the deck cover plate with butyl tape.

As soon as I get some free time next week I'll open up the settee and install the chainplate support on the hull stringer below decks.

Re: Custom rigging HELP?

Getting closer to completion. The new chainplate is installed, I've disassembled the settee on the port side and accessed the stringer.

Last week I drilled a hole through the stringer and installed the eyebolt and stainless steel angle iron.

Today, I glued the wood blocks in place where the fiberglass reinforcement will be applied.

Tomorrow, I should be able to finish the port side support.

Re: Custom rigging HELP?

OK, just finished the port side shroud support. Added five layers of fiberglass and epoxy. Used a 1/4" stainless steel angle iron and a 3/8" turnbuckle. Originally, I purchased a 1/2" turnbuckle but that was WAY oversized for the job. I returned it and got the 3/8"one. It's approximately the same size of the actual shroud turnbuckle.

I tried to get white formica for the top of the settee but no one carries formica any more. I have spent so much time working on these fixes I could not bear to wait another day longer. So, I decided to use paint instead. It turned out fine and looks no different. Besides, few people will ever see it
