Re: Del Rey 50 refit - sv Trim

Every aspect of the refit is meticulously thought out by Agata and myself -
Without any original drawings of the Del Rey 50, Agata painstakingly took hundreds of laser measurements throughout the hull to render interior and deck layout plans. Her design skills allow us to visualise any aspect of the boats design in AutoCAD or Photoshop

Well, I AM impressed! No holds barred and very fast work, with good forethought shown in the planning. Fantastic job... chapeau to you both.

Yes great work and good for you guys shows to those that think it can not be done IT CAN
If possible and if you would like to a costing of your work might help others understand the work and costs involved as there are many on this site always asking about refurbs and some times silly numbers are put out there, clearly you do most of the labour yourselves but it will help others see it for real and read from real people rather than pie in the sky comments , good luck and I hope you put her in the water to enjoy sooner rather than later .

Re: Del Rey 50 refit - sv Trim

Hi Tarian, thanks for your comment. I think every refit is different and it depends on what needs doing. That said - its not cheap to do everything properly as we are, using the highest quality plywood, always epoxy resin, epoxy paints etc, 316 fasteners etc. There are living costs on top of the project cost too.

Indeed! Your work is stunning, and clearly beyond what most people care to undertake, or are capable of undertaking, though many people do dream of doing it.

I think a great many of us would be most grateful if you could provide just a "close enuff" guesstimate of your costs to date both in terms of dollars and in terms of man-hours.

Normally I wish people who undertake such a task the "best of luck", but it is very clear that your two do not rely on luck :-)!!

I join Jim Cate in doffing my chapeau to you.

Wow! Anybody that takes on that big a refit is impressive in my book, but the way U2 have got about it is absolutely stunning. The build strength and quality is amazing. I’m sorry that you guys didn’t do a YouTube channel, it would’ve been wonderful to watch videos of the rebuild. Yes, please Keep posting more photos and information, your posts are inspirational and fascinating. Cheers

Re: Del Rey 50 refit - sv Trim

TrentePieds I think the best answer is every cent you have haha Honestly I think this refit could cost anyone between $50k and $200k. We're towards the lower end of the scale because we do everything ourselves but not all the way because we havent compromised on materials. Man hours i can give a more accurate guess - we've worked full time i.e a 40 hours a week atleast on the project for about a year so far and anticipate finishing in about 11 months from now.

Thanks for all the kind and encouraging comments! much appreciated and we'll get more photos up soon of our completed bulwark and fully primed deck

Incredible work guys! I'm sure your motivation comes from the insatiable urge to get back out there!
I didn't believe "them" when they told me it would take twice as long and three times the money then you think to refit. But I'm a believer now! "They" were conservative!

No one mentioned the domino effect, one project creates two more! So it never ends! Boat refits are no place for OCD people!
Please keep posting pictures!

Re: Del Rey 50 refit - sv Trim

One of the many jobs we are tackling at the moment is the building of our new nav station. We are just about ready to start building the new interior furniture after completing all of the heavy structural work like replacing bulkheads and bolting down our new Bulwark.

So cool how you are rendering this project. That will save hours of figuring it out as you go. I spend more time trying to visualize what I want the finished project to look like and how to fit it in, then it takes to do the project.
good on you. Looking forward to the updates.

Re: Del Rey 50 refit - sv Trim

Hey Jim, Thanks for the comment. It sure does make a great difference being able to visualize the finished product before we even start to build. It's completely Agata's work and it seems like black magic to me but thats why we make a great team It looks like you are doing an incredible refit yourself! very impressive and helps our own motivation.

Hope its not too cold where you are and you're able to continue makung good progress. Cheers, Alex
