Re: Diver applied underwater paint?

Any paint job is only as good as the substrate below it, and it’s pretty difficult to achieve a properly clean surface underwater.
So even if there was a great underwater anti fouling paint available, and a good method of application, the results would be sketchy.
This Makes the cost of a haulout easier for me to swallow.
I am considering listing my monohull to each side to accomplish as much pre cleaning as is practical to save time on the hard.

I don't expect miracles and it's just for the small areas where our keels rested on the beach.

We had that paint for free, so it was worth a try.

No tides of any importance in the Mediterranean sea, so drying out is not really an option until we get back to the Algarve.
I’ve done this with regular Lanolin. I found it easiest toput on your dry hands, then dive under and apply. I used it on the propeller.

The best antifouling for the propeller is to polish it until it looks like made from gold. Marine growth has a hard time attaching to it and can be brushed off when done regularly. I sometimes use Lanolin when at anchor for a while. I think it’s gone again when using the engine.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a paint which can be applied underwater which has some antifouling properties.
Pretty sure something like this exists as there are structures out there which can not be hauled and need to stay reasonably clean.
I found some diver applied coatings and wrote to their manufacturers, but those I found had no antifouling properties as far as I can see.

Of course I will give the areas to be treated a thorough underwater clean before application.
Base substrate is epoxy with a bit of old antifouling on it.

Thanks for suggestions and suitable suppliers. We are currently in Portugal.

It was a different brand but similar.

Turned out to be very messy in the process and I abandoned after a few minutes.
The paint did not really want to stick, even when trying to rub it in.

Cleaning myself when I got out of the water took over an hour.

Re: Diver applied underwater paint?

Very tricky to get paint on with correct side out underwater.

I have heard it can work

I tried it on a section of our aluminium tender and that section actually attracted barnies
My theory was they saw the sheep fat as a food source.
