Re: Do You Buy Parts from eBay ?

I got a good deal on a sail cover made custom to a measuring chart the ebay seller provided.

The best eBay deals are the kids who don't know anything about boats cleaning out dad's garage. I got a Forespar Cargo Mate winch/lifter, new in the box, for $35. Also bought a four-stroke Yamaha there successfully.

I found my boat on ebay. Got her for less than the scrap price. Good deals are out there. I found one of them.

Re: Do You Buy Parts from eBay ?

I've bought numerous parts from eBay. I also use eBay to price check parts.

Great!!
So ask a lot a questions...compare price ranges on bids...check seller's reputation. Would you buy a sail from ebay?

Re: Do You Buy Parts from eBay ?

I've spent way more money than my wife really wants to know about on Ebay, easily into 5 figures. For the vast majority of the gear, it has been way cheaper than discounted new and works just as well. Have done especially well on new equipment that was surplus to the seller. Typically get new parts for 1/2 what they'd cost from a chandlery.

I have gotten burned a couple of times, largely because I didn't look closely at the posted photos and/or ask questions or the right questions about the conditon of the parts. The vast number of sellers are honest in their listings and have answered any questions I had truthfully. In fact, most sellers rate the equipment they are selling way lower than I would have. I'm almost always pleasantly surprized that the used parts turn out to be better than expected.

Re: Do You Buy Parts from eBay ?

The answer to the OP question is yes.

That said, you shouldn't judge a shop by its address. Ebay is NOT a shop it is an address for lots of shops, most of them very small shops that are under-capitalized. A few of the sellers are individuals and those sellers are where the bargains and the scams are found.

Re: Do You Buy Parts from eBay ?

Bought parts in the past and most likely will in the future. Only dissapointment was with running rigging. Some were flawless but one had swallowed an egg. Seemed more like a reject spool rather than a remnant.
