Re: Do you wash your running rigging?

I've washed in a bucket with light detergent. I have washed in a machine on slow/delicate too. It can get tangled some, but works. I left them tied in bundles for the machine. The detergent cleans them up very well.

The Genoa sheets definitely feel much nicer after a wash.
I use a mesh bag. seems to prevent that from happening.
I also use fabric soften. Seems to do a great job at keeping the lines supple

Re: Do you wash your running rigging?

Ours go in the washing machine at the end of each season when the sails come off.

Re: Do you wash your running rigging?

Totally agree. Not for wear on ropes, but wear on hands.

Re: Do you wash your running rigging?

The only rope I've washed is old stained dock lines. Soak for a week or so with detergent. Dirty sails get the same treatment in a kiddy pool. Little to zero scrubbing, the dirt just drops off with agitation.

Washing time is better spent on standing rigging damage than running rigging in my opinion. Take down and soak in kiddy pool, lube with lanolin and swap ends on reinstallation.

Re: Do you wash your running rigging?

I ended up washing the lines near the base of my mast a lot. My dog would look me right in the eye, and before I could stop him, would lift his leg and pee all over them.
