Does Anyone Have Experience with an Electric Caulking Gun?

Trying to determine the fastest way of getting say, 4 tubes of silicone sealant onto a surface.

Can I expect an electric caulking gun to just squirt out a whole tube almost instantly if I cut the largest possible hole in the applicator?

Or... should I focus on just splitting the tubes down the middle and gut them like a fish, scraping all of it out and putting it on the surface with a spreader of some type?

I need to do a 9ft x 4in cove/fillet so it’s got to go up fast to give me time to get it nice and pretty before it sets.

I have used a pneumatic gun that takes large tubes and it can squirt it out faster than you can work with the product so I would say it depends on how thick the material is.

The material is standard silicone like the kind we don’t use for bedding hardware on the deck.

The pneumatic ones look good. But I don’t have air. So I need to understand about these electric ones.

Possibly the time it takes to move it from the tube to the wall and spread is slower than squirting it out.

These are standard 10oz tubes, not the industrial “sausage “

The electric version is pretty awesome. The speed can be adjusted to fit your need

If you are using that much silicone, why not buy it by the gallon? It does have to be used all at once, but it goes on with a putty knife.

If you haven't bought the silicone tubes, just a reminder...

They have a limited shelf-life. Buy the 'freshest'...

Don't ask me how I know ;-(

Just cut the nozzle end off the tube and use the hand caulking gun. You'll get one big glop.

I don't know what the application is... perhaps flex seal paste is an option

That doesn’t work. It’s too many squeezes. I got to get it out fast. Out of like six tubes.

Re: Does Anyone Have Experience with an Electric Caulking Gun?

Re-caulking teak deck and cabin with Sika-flex I used a Ryobi One battery operated caulking gun and highly recommend for mid-size to big jobs. Excellent flow control and shut off. Cost about $140 Cdn all in with battery and charger. Good luck, Fido

You dont have to use a gun or "trigger" it with the end off, just push a big dowel or etc through the tube with a gloved hand and it glops out. Those wood curtain rods they sell may fit well.

Oh!!!!!

I guess I didn’t follow what you meant. Yeah. That makes a lot of sense. Just shove something into the back and squirt it out by opening the front. Not sure why I would need any type of caulking gun to do that. That makes so much sense.

Guessing that’s faster than the electric one. Although I do have miles of this stuff to lay down all over the place. And 5200. It’s my primary fastener.

I may still go with electric and use your idea for the bigger ones.
