Drydocking

Hello,

Considering purchasing a 52 foot houseboat and I’m trying to learn as much as possible. I was told that for maintenance purposes the boat should be pulled out and inspected every three years. Does anyone know what the cost of taking a boat of that size out of the water? The boat was serviced 4 years ago (It’s wooden). Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Id say it should be pulled out every 12- 18 months even if its just to clean the bottom and check the props for fishing line and throw her straight back in.
Cost will vary greatly best to ring the yard closest to the boat. My club is $10 a day and for haul up and splash around $200. I recon it will be more expensive in most places though so give the local yard a call or jump on their website.

I'd have thought more often, although if the boat doesn't really travel, maybe accumulated growth won't matter as much.

In other fora, I've read a) it's becoming increasingly more difficult to find a place that will haul a wood boat in a Travel Lift, b) a railway would be better for a wood hull, and c) it's becoming more difficult to get full coverage insurance on a wood hull. No personal experience with any of that...

Our boatyard charged $16/ft to haul, powerwash, and block in Dec 2021. Additional towing charges, usually modest, are common if you can't move the boat to the well under it's own power.
