This one is for polycarbonate. You probably need an adhesive not goopy sealant or tapes. 3m 590

It's called a frit. When properly done, it's a baked on ceramic when the glass in manufactured.

You can find excellent ceramic coatings but the bigger the object, the bigger the oven you need. I’ve seen temporary ovens built for just a single project using insulating foam sheets.

Here is one such product (always check UV resistance) https://images.nicindustries.com/cer...663.1606495611

Hi. I found it. The Company is Pujol & De Gorter in Spain. The product is Evalam.
Our edge frosty glass was PVB. This was old school.
You might try Oldcastle Glass in Florida as they know quite a bit about laminated. The new tech glass is tempered and laminated.
I’m not sure if Pujol has a patent or trade secret hold on the technology.
They are very well respected.
This is all I found and this info is a few years old.
Happy thanksgiving.

Low tech tape out and oil base paint it. Thin it out with mineral spirits so that the paint lays down/no brush strokes, do several coats, do it before installation. Good luck

Re: Emotionally, I can’t take this anymore. (Windows)

Some fresh thoughts on how to reduce weight AND use glass.

I have a standard catamaran deckhouse with 4 sides.

A front set of windows, 2 side sets and a back with doors.

There is a LOT of window area because I need to see from the indoor helm.

Only the east side windows have failed. I figured out why. It’s at a dock right now which is putting more thermal issues into the east side. It goes from 60F to over 100F in a very short time each morning. The other side warms up as the air does. The east side rockets from 60 to 100+ from sunlight.

In any case, the front (nearly vertical windows) have no problems with 795 and staying put.

The aft windows don’t even see direct sunlight so they are completely fine.

It’s only the side windows that are a problem.

So why not use the right tools for the right job??

Do nothing to my front polycarbonate windows, replace with acrylic or polycarbonate a couple years down the road.

Use tinted glass for both side windows adding only about 100-140 extra pounds. Dow 795 these on using carefully designed joints followed the link Jedi sent to the user guide for 795. No thermal expansion and huge joint should make that a permanent fix.

Use polycarbonate for the aft windows and doors to keep weight down. They see no sun and have no problems. Just redoing the doors as I had temporary ones and am changing the door design. Use 795 or VHB for aft windows. Aft door ones are held by VHB alone now. Doing fine. Aft regular windows held on just fine with some silicone Gord once mentioned. Simple GE hardware store stuff.

Hi,
Where do you get a sheet of 24 x 24 polycarbonate, 12mm, in smoke grey? I have looked all over the place and no one has the 12mm thick in Smoke Grey. I can get clear, but not smoke. Maybe I should just get the clear and put some auto tint on it. I just want it to match my other hatch lenses and auto tint won't look the same. I have 2 I need to replace.

Guessing by request for 12mm you're not US-based, but in case you are, this online source has a decent selection. I just purchased 1/4" acrylic in 2412 bronze to match my bronze glass windows.

Good luck!

our hatches are most likely acrylic, not polycarbonate. All manufacturers use acrylic for hatches as it lasts longer, doesn't craze as fast, and is stiff enough that if stepped on the seal isn't broken, which happens with polycarbonate.

Bomar is the only hatch manufacturer that uses polycarbonate on one series of hatches. They are the ones with bars under the lens.

Hang in there and good luck... I've had my share of "emotional distress" when things either broke or didn't work... hang in there and wishing you the best.

We're all here for you if you need help or just need to vent...

Re: Emotionally, I can’t take this anymore. (Windows)

2003, we converted a 1997 Ford CF8000 commercial truck to our concept of an ExpeditionVehicle.

I used 3x1 dual-pane stand-still house windows.
To stick the vinyl frames to the GRP composite box, I used Vulcum 116.

After nearly a decade of trundling through deserts and remote forest tracks, wading swamps and rivers, and winters on blustery Baja beaches, the Vulcum 116 sealant/adhesive remains soft and pliable.

Go to my blog and see what I did. It worked out really good. The outer sealant, I did have to touch up while it was in the San Diego sun.

And make sure to use the proper sealant.
