Re: Endurance 35 Decking replacement

Want to be certain what I am seeing. 1. Teak cover partially removed. 2. Rotten core material on edges. 3. FRP showing under parts of rotten core. Is this correct?

Are you going to put new teak on top and match in with old teak on side decks? New teak on entire deck? Some other new decking material? Fiberglass deck?

Re: Endurance 35 Decking replacement

If you just fiberglass it, the remaining plywood will keep on rotting under.

Consider complete removal, 2 layers of overlaping quality plywood, then saturate the top with epoxy and then glass/epoxy and some form of nonskid. Glass epoxy goes on the saturater wood in time to bond, not next week. It is a process.

Teak plywood perhaps could be used here.

Re: Endurance 35 Decking replacement

((running repair to keep going)) cut out marine ply to fill hole in deck /protect deck beam with marine epoxy first (sand to remove loose stuff) paint with 180 marine epoxy /check for dripping leaks inside, tape up to stop leaks and protect fittings/clean off with metho if dripped on /wait till dry sand off again and further smooth trip hazards re coat with marine epoxy /deck can be replaced on hard later /important to stop the leak and rot from infecting the deck beams/ if you cover with ply with out repairing first the rot will keep going through your boat/old school repair was paint with heated tar then tack on canvas sealing leaks with beeswax or seal oil.

Re: Endurance 35 Decking replacement

There's some really good information in the linked thread below. Including tips on tearing things out, core & decking choices, resin choices, glassing, etc. As the OP in it is doing much the same job as you are. http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ct-165951.html
Plus, IIRC, there are some other threads on this topic here on the forums as well.

Keep in mind too, that you need to get 100% of the rot; including in the substrata. Otherwise, as I understand it, it'll keep eating things even when covered/encapsulated. And also grow & devour everything "edible", sealed or no.

Re: Endurance 35 Decking replacement

My plan is to take the complete deck up replace with GRP deck, paint and anti skid no more teak on the deck, saying that I'd like to keep the teak on the toe rails.....

Needs some TLC to bring it back from the dead any suggestions ?

Hi Guys......progress report on the deck !!!!

I've replaced all the deck, also repaired or replaced some frames that were found to be rotten, at the moment the deck will be fiberglassed over and painted with anti skid
