Endurance 35 refit

OK here is a question on an endurance 35 factory ( I was told ) ferrocement built boat. The entire hull is lined with two layers of GRP matt and one layer of 24 oz roving. I have never seen this before . Is this normal or should I run away?

Re: endurance 35 refit

Sounds like a handyman fix-it job. Certainly not routine construction. Most of the ferro boats seem to be down under so hopefully one of our friends will chime in.

Its the entire hull inside thats what seems wierd to me but it would be another layer to stop water I suppose. The guy wants 500 for it with good running 4-99 perkins

To be perfectly honest if anyone offered a 35 foot ferro boat to me with a "good running Perkins" for 500 bucks I'd run away. He's the most desperate man on the planet or a family member.....people I routinely avoid.
At the very least hire a surveyor if you are not qualified to assess the condition of the vessel.

I have done quite a bit of wood repair and rudder work on it last summer.
Needs some more wood rework done in the fwd berth. Fresh paint on hull above and below the wl. Just never saw the heavy glass work on the inside of a Ferro hull. Wonders if its normal.

I am still considering the purchase. However I am a shipwright so I have many sources for parts for just about any boat. ( I live in what could be called one of the boating capital's of the world. Almost one boat for every 2 people that live here)

No problem.....i think it's cheaper to buy marine gear in the states rather than Europe

Re: endurance 35 refit

Scrap value has to be a couple of grand, is it close to you? must be worth a gamble. surely.

I have no idea about the fibreglass thing, but if its been floating around for a few decades there is a chance it will last a few more.
