Fairing block for Airmar transducer

I am replacing my old speed sensor with a new Airmar combo unit (speed, depth, temp.) The dead rise angle is approx. 27 degrees so I need to install a fairing block. Does anyone have knowledge of what to use for a fairing block and how did you cut it to the dead rise angle. I really don't want to drill yet another hole in the hull.

Re: Fairing block for Airmar transducer

When I installed my new Airmar B744VL transducer, it came with the fairing. I measured the angle of the deadrise, copied that to the fairing and cut it with a bandsaw. The lower portion of the fairing went on the outside of the hull and the upper piece of the fairing was installed inside, kind of like a ‘hull sandwich’. You will need to drill a hole for the bolt that prevents the fairing from turning.

Good luck, fair winds and calm seas.

Re: Fairing block for Airmar transducer

I bought a fairing block in plastic from Airmar. It came as a 2" or so tapered block that needed to cut to the angle of the hull with a bandsaw. In the past have made up the blocks from cheap fir but worms get to the soft wood eventually.
