Fender "Gunk" on Hull

We have some kind of hard gunk on the hull from our fenders that wont come off. Any suggestions?

Re: Fender "Gunk" on Hull

We have used acetone on a rag to remove the solidified plasticizers from old fenders. You can cover the fenders and that will keep the gunk off. (My first fender cover was a garbage bag, didn't last long, but it worked. Lots of stuff you can sew them from.)

This stuff works as well as anything I’ve tried for getting the gunk off my hull. (See attached below)Though it will also remove any wax on the hull so be prepared to relax that area including drips and runs down the hull. I use a one step cleaner wax for that. For getting the gunk off the fenders, Ann’s post above is correct. Acetone, paint stripper, or whitewall tire cleaner will work but the plasticizer is gone. Nothing for it but covers (sweatpants legs or fancy custom made with your boat name) which also protect your hull.

@ Tayana 42. I did use sweat pants legs, for a while, but it turned out to be cheaper to buy sweat pants material from a discount fabric store, and built them from scratch. Pretty simple, too, and I like the grey.

PS. There is a product with a name like "Goo Gone". I've never tried it. But the OP could, and report back to us.

The acetone also removes any wax you might have on your boat.
