Fitting 9.9 outboards

I have recently purchased a catamaran with 9.9 Yamaha outboards .
These are new and have not been fully installed .
There is no hydraulic lift on the motors .
I have seen these lifted with a rope ,how dose the lock for up and down work.
Thanks
Phil.

What boat?

Typically, a 2:1 purchase attached to a small stainless fitting added under a lower unit bolt pulls it up (easy), and gravity drops it down, sometimes assisted with a single line. The catch holds it (the down line is NOT enough to hold it down). Be careful to keep slack out of the lines or they will wind into the prop.

PDQ 32 and 36 cats use this method.

Sometimes the hold down lock fails: Sail Delmarva: Failed Tilt Locks--Yamaha 9.9 High Thrust

This shows the 2:1 pull-up line.
