Fix Toe Rail

I just had the toe rails on my boat freshly varnished and now, because of a brain fade, I have a very thin gash (about the width of a dime) about 12" long that is down to the bare wood. I covered it with masking tape to keep the water off. All of my woodwork is done by hire but this seems like a small enough job for even me to tackle, with the good counsel of this forum. Thanks.

A light sanding along the gash with say, 240 grit paper then re varnish with the same or similar product previously used, and multiple coats with 360 grit sanding in between, using of course a good fine bristle brush.

Generally agree, except:

Strongly recommend using the same varnish unless absolutely necessary (but it was recently done, so surely you know what with).

Probably want a little finer grit after first coat, but instructions should say.
