Forepeak filler for steel hull.

My boat does not use forepeak for chain storage but it does get wet there from rain thru windlass or SW splash. The high humidity has caused some corrosion, I'm dry grit blasting now but deep down I can't get the last of the black corrosion away. I'm looking to fill the area at least a pint or 2 to get the bottom up to a drain hole.
I'll be epoxy painting, but still I need a filler to resist any corrosion growth. Have thought of micro balloons and epoxy or just poor a bitumen down there. Any comments are welcome.

Re: Forepeak filler for steel hull.

I built my own steel boat many years ago.

There were parts of the interior of the hull that, for one reason or another, I missed, while sandblasting and painting that I did not notice until some weeks had passed.

After wire brushing, and cleaning the exposed steel with Ospho, I whipped up a batch of West System Epoxy and slathered this over the exposed steel.

For the 15 odd years I owned that boat, never had a lick of rust in those areas.

Hope this helps.

Alternately, the inside of my boat was painted with a two part coal-tar epoxy, but this is also available as a one part. You could pour this in there as an alternate to WEST. It will dry to brick hard consistency.

Hope this gives you some guidance.
