Sorry for the delayed reply... busy days.


Thank you all for the great input! I will not hesitate further on this idea and move on to the 'what exactly do I want' stage. I was primarily thinking of a fixed port for strength and simplicity, but I like the idea of an opening port and will do some research and follow the links provided. I already have opening portlights on each side of the v-berth, and a hatch in the top. With them all open I have pretty good ventilation (assuming there is any wind), but having another option wouldn't hurt especially if it could be sheltered somehow and left open when raining. I'm sure I can come up with something. Likely not going to happen this season but will be on the list for next spring.

Some forward facing portlights are simply a piece of 3/8" polycarbonate thru bolted through the cabin front with an inch or so overlap. This works especially if the cabin front has a slight curve. When I have used polycarbonate to reglaze hatches, I use

GE Silpruf for sealing.
