Frozeen turnbuckle

A few of the turnbuckles on my shrouds are frozen. WD 40 didn't help. Would a propane heat gun work? All suggestions welcome. (I am sure this has been asked before, but I can't seem to navigate the search function.)

Re: Frozeen turnbuckle

Use JB-80, it's twice as good. Says so right on the can so it must be true.

Seriously. WD-40 isn't particularly effective on frozen hardware. Use JB-80 or another good penetrating oil. Apply, wait, repeat. You might have to apply oil every day for a week to get them loose. Kind of a pain, but better than cutting them off, right?

Heat will work but may weaken the hardware.

Why you should never apply leveraged force to turn a frozen turnbuckle.

Yeah as Gord shows, ATF and acetone is a good choice. Worked for me! Once they are unfrozen I’ve found Aerokroil works to keep them that way.

Re: Frozeen turnbuckle

The guys that restore ancient machinery have been using the ATF/Acetone mix for decades to free-up parts.
When stuff is already "freed up", a can of "Boeshield T-9" takes the place of a dozen other "miracle" products.
