Re: Full Keel enhancement to slide over fishing nets

There are plastic jugs and buckets that are made of very durable plastic that may be bendable/moldable to the need here, wrapping up the sides of keel a bit. Screwed into keel and sealed on leading edge with some kind of durable goop to keep anything from snagging the leading edge, perhaps?
Just thinking here

Given the apparent robustness of the construction of your boat (but only after checking with the manufacturer to insure that you won't compromise the skin of the rudder [which seems unlikely for that location of the rudder]) I might be more inclined to subtract rather than add, as shown in the 2 doctored pictures below.

Don't think you intend backing over the obstructions?

Re: Full Keel enhancement to slide over fishing nets

Indeed, Jim,
that sharp corner on the rudder should be removed. Manufacturer of these boats doesn't exist anymore, so I am free to change their desgn.
Seems like I shell remove that rudder part according to pic.3 [laminate over the cut] and still place there plastic deflector for total 'defence'.
At least such an upgrade shell move fragile. deflector a bit upwards further from potential ground impact zone [hope never happens].
Thanks for idea!

Full Keel enhancement to slide over fishing nets

I’d use G10 or a rigid plastic. Not metal as if it bends could hit rudder . G10 would break off before bending. Maybe attach it with 5200 which would be strong enough except hard grounding?

Re: Full Keel enhancement to slide over fishing nets

on previous page we came to the same conclusion regarding deflector made of sacrificial plastic instead of heavy-duty metallic construction. Supposedly I shell use HDPE because it easily melts and can be heat-formed around the keel.
thanks for input anyway.
