Galley stove heat shield

Help! My heat shield that goes under and up the sides of the stove is made of brass/copper/bronze? and it corodes and makes a horrible yellow color. The corossion was helped by my sink flooding salt water onto it while leaning on the wind. Should I change to stainless steel or can I clean the old one up? I would like to know from someone with experience with copper/brass stove heat shields. Thanks in advance! If you need pictures just ask
