Gas Tank issues

I have a Morgan 27, with a 8HP ob. Currently I use a 6.5 gal portable tank. I just bought a dingy and need a portable tank. Because of the new EPA rules of the non venting tanks, i will be spending about $100.00 for a 3 gal tank / components to allow my ob to work properly. I can buy a 10 gal inboard fuel tank with the nessary hoses and filler cap for about the same price. Question? Will it be worth using the current 6.5 for the dink and switch the Morgan 27 to a inboard fuel supply. Thoughts on pros and cons. Thanks

Re: Gas Tank issues

I don't think so. There will be cruising situations where it's handy to be able to throw the Morgan's tank into the dink to get fuel ashore. Indeed, if you take it to a regular service station, you may be able to purchase fuel much cheaper than at a fuel dock.

Re: Gas Tank issues

There's a certain point with fuel tanks where a fire extinguisher is required on a boat. It's either the size or the fact that it's fastened down or both.

Whatever you do, keep this in mind. Of course, a fire extinguisher is not expensive and it's good to have on a boat anyway.

6.5 gallons is a pretty large fuel tank for a dinghy.
