Gluing flooring to fiberglass

I am upgrading the old wooden interior decking on my 1985 36-foot Mainship Mk III with new vinyl bamboo and would like a recommendation for the best glue to secure it to fiberglass. Thanks!

Is it vinyl or is it bamboo? What do the manufacturer instructions say?

Re: Gluing flooring to fiberglass

It's a composite of both. The manufacturer understands glueing it to something like a concrete basement floor but nothing about it going on a boat with higher levels of moisture. The flooring pieces are sealed all around to avoid soaking up moisture and warping, or I sealed the pieces I had to cut, just wondering what is best to best secure to fiberglass.

A concrete basement floor is not usually without high levels of moisture

What material are you gluing on the fiberglass: vinyl or bamboo?

What adhesives does the manufacturer recommend for use on concrete, plywood etc.?

Re: Gluing flooring to fiberglass

Would you not ask yourself some questions, first?

1. Would I EVER want to or need to remove the new covering?

2. If so, what other methods of connecting it to the fiberglass are available?

3. Would screws do just as good a job?

I would glue the flooring to plywood panels and screw or fasten the plywood to the "floors" on your boat in a way which can be removed in the future.

(what you walk on is called the sole. The supports or beams are called floors.

Re: Gluing flooring to fiberglass

I have done that on a few boats. I use a Locktite product called PowerGrab, available at hardware stores in the construction adhesives department. The stuff glues anything to everything and won't let go unless pried off with a prybar. I have set vertical ceramic tiles with the stuff. Waterproof.
