Grease for Stuffing Box?

Hi Everyone,

I have this 1968 Cheoy Lee 32 and it's got a little copper tube that runs to the base of the shaft and a small brass grease supply that you twist and it pushes grease into the stuffing box.

When I bought the boat, I had 2 tubes of the stuff and when I took it out yesterday, for the life of me, I couldn't find the grease and it drips a bit more than it should when running.

Does anyone have any idea what kind of grease that is?

Thanks,

-Dan

Re: Grease for Stuffing Box?

I had a similar fitting on my steering cables.
I bought these small cans of " teflon" grease, which I put in there in those grease fittings.
I used the same stuff for my packing gland on an older boat I had.
Never had any issues with using that product.

I just went online and there are dozens of options to choose from. Take your pick, most any would seem to do the trick.

It's kinda one of those things where you can "Do what you want".
I generally recommend a grease that's made for boat trailer axle bearings, but it ain't a big deal.
I would not recommend grease that contains graphite.
Graphite is so high on the nobility scale that most everything else becomes its anode.

I had no idea about the graphite thing. I didn't even take that into account. Thanks for the heads-up
