On the upside those devices could double as drum sticks.

Robert, I'm not sure which house picture you are referring to. If it is one of the FOUR homes that Panope has been parked near, I could draw and post a quick sketch.

Re: Happiness is a Warm Spool Gun

I can see it now..a guy in a pin stripe suit knocks on your door and hands you a card, "Sir, I am representing the Harkin corporation. If you are the inventor of the Panopuller I have a check here for a million dollars for the rights to the design." The next thing we know Panope has a good plated Rocna on her bow:-).

Idora,

My market research indicates the existence of approximately 7 costumers (worldwide) who would likely purchase a Panopuller.

That Rocna will need to be made of paper mache, not gold

Instead of riches from the invention, I think you're more likely going to robbed by the guy casing out the joint.

Robert,

I still do not know which house you are speaking about.

Three houses match your previous description.

Re: Happiness is a Warm Spool Gun

I was absent from sailing for a couple years while I built a new (land) home with attached boat shed. Panope has been indoors but is now is back in the water for some Fall sailing.

No big changes to the boat other than switching from a fixed, three blade propeller to a feathering MAXPROP. Boat is performing very well with the new prop. Sailing speed has increased about 3/4 knot, while motoring speed only decreased about 1/10 knot.

I suspect that this (sailing performance) increase is greater than typical because the propeller is quite large (for this size boat) and therefore has greater opportunity to reduce drag.

I managed to get some viewable footage while using my small, heavy weather sails.

Re: Happiness is a Warm Spool Gun

Well, funny thing... as I watched that video my first thought was that the boat looked very... composed.

Geez, you get some decent breezes in your part of the world, I’m sure I’ve seen another of your videos in similar conditions.

I really like the soft shackle idea, but there’s too much crap on my mast for that to work. A pity.

How was the helm balance with all that power forward? If I remember correctly you converted to two masts (ketch, yawl, schooner?) from one mast a while back? Instinctively I feel like that would make Panope want to fall off the wind with that sail arrangement, but that did not appear to be happening in the video.

Conversion was FROM schooner TO sloop with the mast placed in the old "foremast" position. So yes, with these small sails, the rig is far forward.

Surprisingly, helm balance was perfect with just a touch of weather helm. The only explanation I have for this is that pilot house might be acting like a "mizzen", and balancing the forward sails.

Ah, right. I’d forgotten some critical details, that makes sense.

As for pilot house theory, seems credible to me. My boat will heave-to very nicely in 40 knots with no sail at all, it think because of the odd combination off deck house, high rear deck, and a lot of clutter on the stern. Have not tried it in anything higher than 40 knots and I sincerely hope I never have to.

P.s. the interior of the pilot house looks superb.
