Has anyone made masking patterns in kiwigrip to break up large areas

I have a 48' cat and looking down the hulls from the top looks a bit like you're riding a whale. I wanted to break up the look a bit and thought of geometric shapes masked off to give a different impression.

Even the roof over the salon is a big expanse, which currently is just solid kiwigrip, it would be nice to break it up with a pattern of some type but not enough to slip on, just a simple shape, repeated ?

Currently the whole boat is just solid kiwigrip with no line breaks.

Has anyone done this... how's it look.

Why not use adhesive backed vinyl to decorate your yacht. Is there anything here?

google (image) "adhesive backed vinyl graphic boat decals"

https://www.google.com.au/search?q=a...h=687&biw=1143

Maybe just google "Vinyl boat decals"

https://www.google.com.au/search?sca...ih=687&dpr=0.9

I've got some striping/scroll/yacht name on my yacht and I think it makes a big difference.

NOTE: Tap on the picture to enlarge the decal.

Dave_S I usually use the 25mm green tape as the guide for breaking up my nonskid patterns. Then I just use what looks right to me when marking out the deck. Under the tape I paint gloss white to contrast with the non-skid.
You could always go really radical like this Globe 5.80 below.
Cheers

Re: Has anyone made masking patterns in kiwigrip to break up large areas

When I applied KiwiGrip to the deck of our 43 ft ketch, I painted the molded lines between non-skid areas as well- all the same color KiwiGrip. It works with our monohull, and eliminated the slippery smooth stripes between nonskid sections.

But I could see how monotonous it might be with a large multihull deck area.

To avoid having to remove KiwiGrip to make the patterns you describe, have you considered painting sections/ stripes/ whatever over the existing KiwiGrip with KiwiGrip of a different color to achieve the patterns you desire? It recovers very easily, but might be tricky to get visually acceptable demarcations (lines) between different colors due to the non-skid texture. For that reason I am considering adding some slight color differences between painted planes on our deck- places with natural breaks between colors. (Perhaps easier on our monohull with 4 independent deck levels.)

In case you don’t already know, you can also tint KiwiGrip with latex paint tints at any paint store.

Just food for thought.

Cheers, Bill

Why re-invent the wheel? There are plenty to choose from and they are not all that expensive. If you make a hash of the job you will de-value your cat.

When I did mine I photo copied their decal (enlarged 400%) and stuck them on with cello-tape to see how they would look
